In short
Clip2Cloud is a browser extension that saves images to your Google Photos with a right-click. Images go straight from your browser to Google. Clip2Cloud runs no server of its own for this, sells no data, shows no ads and measures nothing.
The extension
The extension processes data in your browser only:
- Email address of the chosen Google account: shows which account it saves to; Clip2Cloud checks that every
access token belongs to that account. It is kept with the settings in
storage.sync. - Access token from Google: kept only for the current browser session in the extension’s session storage
(
storage.session), then discarded. The image and page addresses of recent clips are kept there too, so “Save anyway” in a notification works. - Settings and the weekly counter (how many of this week’s 10 clips are used): in the extension storage
storage.sync. If Chrome sync is on, Google syncs them between your devices. - History of recent clips (page title, page and image address, time, result, target account and link to the saved
photo): only locally on your device (
storage.local), the last 200 at most. You can clear it in the popup at any time.
When you save an image, the extension loads it from the web page it appears on, just as your browser shows it, and sends it to the Google Photos Library API. If “Save the origin as description” is on, it also sends page title, page address, image address and time as the photo’s description.
Clip2Cloud uses only the Google scope photoslibrary.appendonly: it can add photos and create its own albums, but it
cannot read, change or delete your photos. To sign in it also uses your email address (userinfo.email).
Legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR: you use the extension to save images to your account.
Google API Services
Clip2Cloud’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Clip2Cloud uses this data only to save your images to your account, does not share it and does not use it for advertising.
The website
- Hosting: Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare, Inc., USA). When you visit, Cloudflare processes technically necessary data such as IP address, time and page, to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework; how long it keeps this data is set out in Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Redirect: requests to
clip2cloud.comare forwarded towww.clip2cloud.comby a server I run myself on Google Cloud in Frankfurt. It writes no access logs; only technical error messages are kept, for 30 days at most. - The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads nothing from third parties. It only remembers your
language choice in your browser (
localStorage); this is strictly necessary for the display you asked for (Section 25(2) No. 2 TDDDG).
Legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure, working website).
Support
If you write to me, I process your message and address to answer (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, otherwise (f): legitimate interest in answering requests). The emails are stored with Google Workspace (Google Ireland Ltd.); Google may transfer data to the USA on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. I delete the messages once the request is settled, unless a legal retention duty applies.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR), and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
Right to object: where I process data under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you can object at any time under Art. 21 GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation. An email to the address above is enough.
Deleting the extension’s data: history and session data disappear when you remove Clip2Cloud. What Chrome Sync keeps (settings with the email address, the weekly counter) may stay in your Google account; you delete it by resetting the sync data in Chrome. Photos in Google Photos you delete there.
